Taiwan Institute of Fetal Medicine Fellowships

Taiwan Institute of Fetal Medicine (TIFM) offers scholarships to accept short term or long term clinical research fellows to have training in fetal medicine in Taiwan. The beneficiary can have training in fetal medicine in the Taiji Clinic and the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Triservice General Hospital.

The Taiji Clinic was founded in 2008 by Dr. Tungyao Chang as a fetal medicine clinic. It is renowned in Taiwan for fetal ultrasound screening and the multidisciplinary team approach when a fetal anomaly is detected. Its clinical practice is closely aligned with the guidelines of the FMF and ISUOG.

The TIFM was founded in 2019 by Dr. TungYao Chang to provide a domestic platform for clinical collaboration, education, and research in fetal medicine. In 2023, the TIFM launched the “Saving Life Before Birth Project” in response to Taiwan’s low birth rate in view of fetal medicine. From 2024, the TIFM launches the international scholarship in fetal medicine program to share knowledge and to develop academic, research and clinical skills in fetal medicine for health professionals from our neighboring countries.

The clinical research fellowship program aims at recruiting young health professionals with a goal to develop themselves in fetal medicine in terms of clinical skills, research, and academics. Our clinical workers will help the fellows to develop the clinical skills, and our research team will help the fellows to conduct research and to prepare for publication. The fellows are encouraged to have more in-depth training with our collaborating medical professionals in the medical centers.

A Historic First for Fetal Medicine in Asia Pacific

On 15 August 2026, the Fetal Medicine Foundation Asia Pacific held its inaugural face-to-face accreditation course in Osaka, Japan — a landmark day for fetal medicine education across the region, and a powerful demonstration of what this organisation stands for.

The Clinical Research Institute of Fetal Medicine (CRIFM) Prenatal Medicine Clinic in Osaka opened its doors to over 117 doctors from across the region, hosting a full day of intensive hands-on practice and formal accreditation assessment led by FMF Asia Pacific's Honorary Treasurer, Professor Ritsuko K. Pooh. From the first registration to the closing remarks, every element of the day reflected the remarkable generosity, expertise, and hospitality of Professor Pooh and the entire CRIFM team.

Course at a Glance

A Day of Learning and Assessment

The day began with opening remarks from Professor Pooh and FMF Asia Pacific founder Professor Liona Poon, setting a tone of warmth, purpose, and collegiate spirit. Two substantive lectures followed: the first, delivered by Professor Liona Poon, covered the three accreditation topics in full:

• First Trimester Scan (11–13 weeks)
• Preeclampsia Screening
• Cervical Length Measurement

The second lecture, delivered by Professor Pooh herself, offered delegates an exclusive introduction to Fetal Neurosonography — a reflection of CRIFM's internationally recognised leadership in this advanced and rapidly evolving field.

An Innovative Dual-Track Structure

What set this course apart was its carefully engineered parallel session format. Delegates were divided into two groups of 50, each rotating between two distinct and complementary experiences across the day:

Candidates were assessed across up to three components. Once deemed satisfactory in a component, competence in that area was formally recognised. Upon completing all relevant assessments and providing proof of completion of the required education course on the FMF Asia Pacific website, candidates received their e-certificate of competence — a meaningful mark of achievement earned through genuine clinical demonstration.

With over 110 medical professionals assessed in a single day, this course sets a high benchmark for what FMF Asia Pacific accreditation events can achieve.
